About Jason Inoue

I built this coaching practice because generic programming almost ended my own training.

BJJ Black Belt.  Strength & conditioning coach.  Twenty years spent figuring out how to train hard without falling apart.  Now I help other professionals do the same.

MY STORY

From Molecular Biology to the Mats

I didn't start as a strength coach.  I started out as a student athlete playing football, baseball, basketball, wrestling, judo and several other sports.  In high school I played football, baseball and did powerlifting.  At the University of Washington I was Molecular and Cellular Biology student that also played rugby and fought MMA.  After college I've numerous roles in a multitude of industries, but I've always been involved in health and fitness.  I went on to get a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist designation, Personal Training Certification, Crossfit Level 1 Trainer Certification, Modern Army Combatives Level 1 & 2 Certification, Black Belt in BJJ and StretchLab Flexologist Certification.

Jiu Jitsu has been the sport that pulled all these aspects together.  The science background and the systems thinking I gained from earning an MBA and over two decades of coaching athletes and executives.

Generic strength programs had nothing to do with what BJJ actually demands and "just train more" advice eventually led to the exact injuries it was supposed to prevent.

I built my own approach out of necessity, then spent years refining it with the professionals and competitors I coach.  Today I hold a BJJ Black Belt under Brazilian Top Team and have also spent 15 years training under Marcelo Alonso of Carlson Gracie Team.  I split my time coaching strength and conditioning for BJJ athletes and executives while also coaching private jiu jitsu classes in Austin, Texas.

Most of my clients are working professionals, people with demanding careers who train hard and refuse to let their job or their training take the other down.

WHY PROFESSIONALS

Why I Coach This Specific Person

I know what it's like to try and hold a career and serious training together at the same time.  The schedule conflicts, the guilt of missing a session, the temptation to just push through fatigue instead of managing it.  Most coaching advice is written for people with unlimited time and no other obligations like a career and family.  Mine isn't, because I understand the reality of the daily pressures, demands and stress.

WHAT THAT MEANS FOR YOU

A Plan That Respects Your Reality

You won't get a program that assumes you can train twice a day or sleep nine hours a night.  You'll get one built around the actual constraints of a demanding job, because I've coached that person and I've been that person for twenty years.  I've competed in numerous tournaments and the Pan America three times all while juggling BJJ training, a demanding career, graduate school, family and social obligations.
